We put a 16 mile Furono on Lyric. Very good plan to have one. Initially it
was on a tripod on the stern. We braced it to the coaming but it put to much
stress on the fibreglass. We wound up moving it to the mast while at the
police dock in San Diego and it worked fine. I'd have reservations about
putting it on the backstay split as the beam would be closer to the crew
than I'd feel comfortable with. Ask a neighbor with one to borrow his
mounting instructions to find out high above the head it needs to be. If you
wanted to do away with the split and go to double backstays it might be a
better solution. We used a swing out mount from West Marine attached to the
inside of the aft port cabin bulkhead to mount the screen on. It was a good
position as we good adjust it so we could see the screen form either side of
the cockpit. We also extended the mounting plate by bolting a longer piece
of aluminum plate to it. This allowed us to mount our fishfinder next to the
radar screen. Good luck with the installation. Walt Brown
