A note about marine products and pricing
I, too, used to think I was getting gouged every time I bought marine products. But now that I work with a number of small manufacturers every day, I can tell you first hand that none of them are getting rich selling marine gear. We're acclimated to prices for items made overseas in mass quantities, shipped over here in huge containers, and sold through high volume retailers at low margins. Many of the marine products we buy are made in small quantities (often one-off, on demand), in the US, and sold through vastly smaller distribution channels.Even the largest manufacturers are piddling compares with the giants that dominate the auto aftermarket, home improvement, or general consumer goods. So, while I'm sure we do get it stuck to us now and then, most of these folks are just small businesses trying to earn a living.== end soapbox ==
