Just had a Racor 500 installed to replace the factory installed primary fuel filter on my H33. Just wondering whether I should use the 10 micron or 30 micron filter element. Would like to hear what other sailors are using.

10 on the engine 30 for the fuel line. That is the first filter the fuel see should be a 30 micron and the next (last) filter should be a 10. That's what Yanmar recommends.

I use 2 micron filters in my Racor. Have the optional vacum gauge and watch the vacum. when it starts to climb I replace the filter.

We have a Racor filter/water separator and currently use the 30 micron elements. I believe Yanmar recommends it to avoid fuel pressure problems. The mechanical lift pumps are not very strong. We find the 30 micron does a good job in gathering sediments and keeping the secondary filter quite clean.

Thanks everyone...this has been helpful. I am going to go with 30 micron.
