I am going to skipper a beneteau 505(moorings)in the a regatta this Oct. and wonder if anyone has any tips on how to trim the boat out...The boat is equipped with high cut charter style sails. Any ideas how to get speed out of this setup please let me know.

Powerful Rig off the wind

The Moorings 505 is a powerful rig, and combined with a fairly heavy displacement, it will cut through chop really well. About two years ago, a group of us chartered two J120's and a Moorings 505 in the BVI. When just cracked off the wind a bit, she would beat the J120's on a straightaway. Just like any other boat, don't pinch up too far (foot off a bit for more power and speed), trim the genoa first to get the boat moving, then balance with the main. You may want to rig a Barber Hauler to get a better sheeting angle. Have fun. It's a great boat.
