Are there any tuning specs or racing notes for this boat?
Tips on getting the boat to go it's fastest and point highest, etc..

Not that I am too capable of this, but my buddy is already eyeing up this boat. One thing that is interesting, the Albin Vega has about the same sail area and is lighter than the Catalina 27, but has a slower phrf rating (as I understand). Is it just more wetted surface underneath because of the larger keel?

I've raced "Flicka" many times and have done very well; several first's. However, the Catalina 27 is though to race against, it's a fast boat and not easy to beat, even with the handicap advantage. I think that the races I won were mostly due to an experienced crew and getting off to a good start. The Catalina most likely does so well because of the keel configuration, whether it's the fin or the shoal draft keel...but they can be beat. Anyway, have a go at it, and good luck.

I've done a lot of racing and I have the trophies to show
for... the Vega holds her ground with most if not all 27
footers. (only the Catalina 25 is hard to beat- in light
air). It needs a lot of tuning- mast rake etc. - and a good
suit of sails (and knowing the racing rules!) I race no
more; but I'm always happy when my good old 257 gets me
from here to there...:)
