I'm just getting started in this "hobby" and will be entering the Annual Mug Race on the St. Johns River in May. I am thinking of buying a set of sails for racing and need advise on what to buy. I've looked at North sails, but that's more than I want to invest. What are other alternatives that would be priced between a set of new sails from Catalina Direct and North racing sails?

First, I would joint Chip Ford's discussion group. http://www.chipford.com/ That would be where many racers would love to discuss this. Something from the Catalina Organization: http://www.main.org/catalina22/C22%20sails.htm I would say that this info may be slightly dated ~2001 but good to read. I also think that there was a recent change in the rules which allow fully battened mains.
