Own DaySailer, '78--daughter wants to race it(!?)--fun only--decent shape, old sails, old running rigging. Looking for hints, tips, comments (+/-) etc.

Go fo it

Go for it. I race my 68' that is basically in the same shape. I recently upgraded to a newer main sail and rigged for a spinnaker, but other than that the thing is stock. Go to the national site and see if there are other DaySailers in your area and drop them an email to see where they might be out racing. I think it's a great way to get out there on a regular basis and to build skills.

fix it up and go

I got an old one, a '69 and have replaced standing and running rigging over the years. Check your rigging out and replace worn-out stuff, you'll get piece of mind from it and its pretty easy to do, just some $. I'd order from D&R Marine. You can shop around for sails probably around $450 for main and $220 for Jib. Put her in and race away, Summer's coming!
