I appreciate all the responses that I am getting. Some additional questions. If tuned properly how close to the wind can I expect to go? In 8-12 mile/hr winds what head sail should I fly and what would you expect my boat speed to be? Beating to windward? Beam reach? Downwind (without a spinnaker)? (with a spinnaker) I intend to do some trials and would like to have some targets to shoot for.

Well...

I would suggest a # 1 genoa in those winds. There are far too many variables involved to give you anything close to an accurate idea of what your boat seppd should be. You need polar diagrams, or alternatively need to talk to someone with the same boat.. You can also just do a series of trials yourself and record speeds over time. MC
