I crew on board a 1986 First 345. It does not have a baby stay/jack stay-should we? If we add a baby stay how hard is it tack a 150 genoa? We do have a crew member that can help walk it across. Does anybody have any idea what the settings should be for the rigging? We have access to a loos gauge but do not have any numbers. Thanks for the help.

Baby stays and jack stays

I'm Wondering why a Stay addition would be wanted. you say your running a 150 so I'm thinking your sailing in light air where added stays are not necessary. The reasoning for Check stays are to stop the mast from "PUMPING" and pumping uasally happens in higher winds where a 150 would not be used. As for the placement for the stays, I'd either contact Beneteau Performance for placement or a top end rigging shop that supports race boats. We have a couple in the San Francisco Bay area.. Give KKMI in Richmond Ca.a call. They work a lot with the cup boats but are still works with the little guy. When Re-Rigging my FIRST 42, they were the only people around that would install the origional "T" fittings on my rigging. By the way, My 42 is a tall rig, cutter, with a baby stay and check stays and even with the cutter rigg, I dont have a problem getting the 135 through the slot.......
