Race to Alaska is a project of the Northwest Maritime Center in Port Townsend, WA, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to engage and educate people of all generations in traditional and contemporary maritime life, in a spirit of adventure and discovery.

The first leg is a jump across a pond, the Juan de Fuca. It tests the boats and crews.

Over the next 10 days they will have 2 Low cells bring in favorable winds and 1High pressure cell put the wind on their nose for several days. The fast boats may be 4-5 days. The slow boats could be 2-3 weeks or more. It’s only about 520nm the way the crow flies to Ketchikan. There will be periods of being becalmed.
