"Twisted" boom

Hi there.

Our boom seems to have twisted about 5 degrees or so round the gooseneck so the sail slot is no longer uppermost. The boom is a jiffy reefed replacement for the old roller reefing boom, mounted onto the original rotating hardware. The handle pops ito it's lock OK but the boom seems to be offset slightly. I don't see any obvous way to re-align it.

Any suggestions? (and does it matter??)

Would it be possible to detach the handle, rotate the boom straight again, then put on the handle in the new straight position?

David. How was the boom constructed? is the end piece where the it connects to the gooseneck circular or oval. If it's circular it may have been rotated slightly when it was attached to the boom. We don't have an origional boom either. Our end piece was made from 1/2 inch aluminum plate cut to fit inside the extrusion. Two tabs were welded onto it. These tabs are where the pin attaches to the goose neck. If your boom is like ours the tabs may have been out of alignment when the piece was constructed. Our end piece is held in place with machine screws. If yours is built the same way it should be relatively simple to remove it, cut the tabs off and have new ones welded on. Be careful removing the scews and be sure to use anti-seize when putting it back together. Walt

Subject: [AlbinVega] "Twisted" boom

The boom on our Vega seems to be rotaded slightly so the sail track is about 10 degrees off true. The boom replaced teh original roller reefing boom and attaches to the old roller reefing fitting through the mast. The reefing handle is locked in place but I don't see any easy way to rotate the boom back into position.
Any thoughts??
