Quite a storm

We had a poorly predicted storm blow through yesterday with 90 knot winds. A couple of boats were knocked over, one was on a trailer, the other on a fixed cradle.

Dinghies that were not tied down were thrown around.

One Laser was thrown over 100 feet!

One mast was broken, this happened in the harbour which is protected by a berm with a row of large trees on it.

Our docks are in pods of 6 to 10 slips. Each of the pods remained intact but several of them moved by up to 30 feet. The C&C 115 I race on healed over so much the toe rail went under the dock and damaged the stanchions as well as the toe rail. My boat seems to have survived unscathed.

We survived for the most part except that a tree branch fell on our mast which may need replacing. It was on saw horses by Jr. Club. Most importantly our grand son's opti was unscathed!

Interestingly, it was a very localised event.
In our Club, which is about 2 km away, the wind clocked a mere 45 kt and I did not see any damage.
In the other direction (downwind from OP's Club) several roofs were torn or damaged.

From what I heard it was likely a microburst, similar to the one the devastated the park in NBDG (MOntreal) next to my daughter's appartment

Yeah, watched that front on Environ Canada radar, build unexpectedly as it came across Lake Huron ( roofing contractor.... always on ) but broke up as it went past us west of Toronto. Didn't see it build again as it went further east, but heard reports of some strong storms.

I went to check the damage with my daughter. We had to go check on her Opti first and there was no damage. I did ask if she was glad now that I told her to always tie it down. :) The Fin in the dinghy picture above landed pretty close to it though.
