This might be of interest to some. My windlass was not working and the previous owner never used it for five years. Checked out the remote control and it was filled with water (it had been left in the anchor well) and badly corroded. Ordered a new one - still no luck. Checked wiring and function of solenoid unit. It was not operating so, ordered a new one (new model). Installed it, no luck. Removed motor and checked it - all good. Service tech at Quick suggested I run a jumper from the ground spade terminal to one of the spade terminals that close the circuit to supply voltage to the windlass motor and see if I hear the solenoid close - I DID! Seems Beneteau wired it wrong and had a hot lead going to the ground spade on the solenoid unit. I ran my own ground from the ground lug adjacent to the unit and all is now working.
Not the first time I found an electrical problem - Beneteau had wired my cabin light switch incorrectly as well.
