A bunch of questions
I'd need to try to spec out what kind of sailor the present owner is... finicky or laize-faire. I'd ask if he/she had maintenance records (a good owner would). I'd try to find out how knowledge he/she was. I'd find out how many owners the boat has had. I'd certainly ask what kind of sailing the owner did... racing, cruising or cocktailing. On a 1999 boat I can't imagine the opportunity to really screw things up though. If you're buying through a broker, I'd make it really clear that you're going to pissed as hell if the boat is a dog. I once drove about five and a half hours each way to look at a boat that was absolute garbage. The broker, knowing where I was comming from, should have told me knot to waste my time. Then of course I'd also weigh whether the price of the boat was worth all the trouble. A 1999 C320 should be offered for between $78K and $90K unless it is in brand new condition and has a ton of electronics. Yachtworld is the place to look.EG
