questions about my mac 22

It's a 1974 so I believe the swing keel is cast iron, have some questions.

1. is it just painted or wrapped in epoxy?

2. is it a bad idea to keep it in a slip (saltwater) because it'd rust much more quickly? how long do I have before I have to pull it out and restore it, just a guesstimate. right now it has a very small area of rust.

3. if I put it on the hard, is it sufficient to just hose it down after each outing?

4. the boat does not have a kick up rudder. when launching it, when should I put on the rudder? In the setup area where I raise the sail? will the rudder drag on the launch ramp? or is it better to launch w/o rudder, tie up boat to dock then put it on(I don't know if this is doable because the gudgeon is so down below water )?

thx

In answer to your question(s) I'm pretty sure '74 was cast iron painted. If it is glass encased it will be very smooth and white. We had a '71 V222 and salt water got in to the keel between the iron and glass and it swelled and cracked. If you are on the hard a good freshwater hose down should be sufficient. make sure you shoot water into the keel well and also rinse off the trailer. Depending on how much clearance you have between the rudder and the pavement will determine launching with rudder attached. We always mounted rudder after launch tied up to the dock. Lower gudgeon is easy to see and pintel should go right in. Mounted the outboard on the hard. Can't recall does your 22 have the built in motor well or does it have outboard bracket? We never slipped any of our Ventures because they are so easy to rig and launch and slip fees are very high. We've trailered as far south as Ensenada Mexico and as far north as the San Juans in British Columbia and all points in between. in What part of he world are you located? We had our 22 for five years and loved it. Great boat and fun to sail. Even had a spinnaker. Fair Winds and Full Sails....
