Hooking up a Wash Down Pump
I am putting a washdown pump on my 361. I hooked the pump into an existing thru hull by putting a "T" in the line that leads from the thru hull to the head. I then put the pump under the seat in the saloon and ran a hose to the "backside" of the anchor locker where the windlass is mounted. I wouldn't put the pump as high up as the anchor locker just because you increase the "head" that the pump has to pull water and the pumps can usually push water more easily than they can pull it. That means having the pump closer to the water line is better. It is easy to cut a hole for a hose attachment inside the anchor lock where it is protected, and use a screw-in barb fitting on the backside to hook up the hose from the pump. It wasn't too hard to feed the hose from the saloon seat, through the hanging locker, and up into the back of the anchor locker. The other advantage of putting the pump under the seat is that I already have wiring there for the freshwater pump, and I hooked in a toggle switch that allows me to run either the washdown or the freshwater pump, but not both at the same time. This prevents overloading the line or breaker by running both pumps. Since I never want to run both of them at the same time anyway, this works well and saves running wires over to the breaker panel. Hope that helps.
