Hunter 410 New Orleans
I recently purchased a Hunter H410 and am adding a genset. The boat has never had a genset. However there are three 6 gauge wires, one black, one white and one green: there are two 8 gauge wires, one red, one black: and 2 ea. 12 gauge wires, one black and one green.

I have traced the 6 gauge wires to the instrument panel area and am confident that they are the for the 110 volt service from the genset to the 110 volt service panel.

I tried to tract the two 8 gauge wires and the 2 12 gauge wires but have been unable to. I checked the Hunter wiring diagrams that came with the boat but they are not detailed enough to rely on. I am thinking, from the general wiring diagrams, that the 8 gauge wires could be the genset battery cables and the 12 gauge wires could be for the genset alternator.

I would appreciate any information you may as to what the purpose is for the 8 gauge wires and for the 12 gauge wires. I appreciate any assistance. regards, Bob Moran.

I installed a gen set on my 410 and had the wires there as well. Let me see if I can remember. One set was for the power to the panel. Another set is for a blower. You should have a blower breaker. I highly recommend you install a blower. I had to because my power side of the generator would overheat and shutdown. I can provide more info on what I did here if interested. The Black & Red wires I believe are for the battery. I could never find the other end near the battery bank. What I did was install a separate battery in the lazzerette with the generator. I then installed a small charger for that battery. My reasoning was if I lost all battery power from the house and starter battery I could still start the generator and charge the batteries. Let me know if you have other questions.

Question on genset wiring hookup

I am getting ready for the installation of the genset and do have another question regarding the wiring hookup to the power panel. I just posted that question on the site but thought about your experience with your installation and thought I would ask you directly. I checked the Owners Manual and the diagram shows the genset hot line connected to the same post on the power panel as the shore power hot line. I want to ber sure before I make that connection. It does look like the circuits are isolated thru the neutral connections. Also, the diagram does not show a direct genset hot line connection to the air conditioner side of the panel. I would appreciate any insight into whether or not that would require a jumper wire or some othert modification. The connections in the dotted line box are not shown on the diagram. I would appreciate any assistance. I haven't forgotten your request for photos if the instrument panel. I can send it to your email if you would like. Regards, bobweiser (Bob Moran, Slidell, LA)
