hi peggie, thanks for the reply and advice. i ordered a copy of your book. i was reading an article in the c34 forum that you wrote and noticed you wrote that the vent hose from the tank should be the shortest, straight lead out possible. i think the past owner redirected the vent situtation from straight out into a stantion post, to a travel about 20' to a stern vent. the hose goes up inside the hull, makes a 90 degree turn and runs along the inside botton of the boat and then up to the vent. maybe this is too long and that is causing much of the odor. i noticed that this vent hose stinks. told you before that i am going to change all of the hoses. should i eleminate this long run and go back to a short lead out of the boat into the stantion post? i also just ordered a bottle of k.o and c.p. to try. let me know your suggestions. the boat is now out of the water for winter and i want to get started this weekend. thanks...jeff kaplan

Yes...and no

Yes--Re-route the vent line to be as short and straight as possible, but not into the stanchion again. The tiny little opening in the stanchion does not allow enough air flow to create the aerobic condition in the tank necessary to prevent odor, which is prob'ly the reason a PO re-routed it to the transom--to get of the horrible odor in the cockpit. He didn't realize that all he had to do was get it out of the stanchion to a new open thru-hull fitting that allows the tank to "breathe."
