Having just purchased a 1980 Hunter 27', I found that both the main sail and the 150% genoa were is such bad shape with stitching coming out basically not worth the cost to repair. So I have decided to bite the bullet and purchase a new set of sails. I have talked to a local sail maker and he has quoted me $1,420 for a new 135% roller furling Genoa and $1,170 for a new main. I have also checked on this site as to having sails made through Hunter and the price is very close to the same. I am thinking that it would be better to work with a local sailmaker as he would actually do all measuring, etc. Any thoughts or suggestions from those who have had to go the route of new sails? Thanks.
