Having just purchased a 1980 Hunter 27', I found that both the main sail and the 150% genoa were is such bad shape with stitching coming out basically not worth the cost to repair. So I have decided to bite the bullet and purchase a new set of sails. I have talked to a local sail maker and he has quoted me $1,420 for a new 135% roller furling Genoa and $1,170 for a new main. I have also checked on this site as to having sails made through Hunter and the price is very close to the same.I am thinking that it would be better to work with a local sailmaker as he would actually do all measuring, etc.Any thoughts or suggestions from those who have had to go the route of new sails? Thanks.
