for the mast used on my macgregor, they used the Dwyer extrusion DM6..... what is there for available mast gates that would work well on this type of extrusion?

Only thing available is DIY. Sumner has and interesting soluition. Most have attached their own versions with small ss angles screwed to the chanel. Stock was smimply a knurled slug stop.

thats what ive been using, but it isnt the best for reefing quickly.... i see mastgates.com has one that may work nicely, if its fitted proper. but i wonder about the longevity of the shock cord....

I've dropped a few of the stops in the water. (at 10 bucks a pop)

I think it was TimeBandit that thought up drilling a hole above the gate and installing a catch pin. (or just a push pin)... -will look for a pic. simple and effective.

Ted, do you have a mast gate on your 29-2? I'm looking to put one on my 29-2 and I am looking for suggestions.

Question on mast gates

Wedsnighteracer, I do not have a mast gate on my 29-2 yet. I am kind of drawn to the one I referenced by Mastgates.com though.

My Gloucester has a Dwyer DM-375 mast. Here's my solution: http://home.comcast.net/~blizzard3/g20/mastgate/
thats a great idea.... i would go that route if I didnt have a gooseneck attaching bolt going thru the track....

but im going to experiment... if i built it so i pulled it down to close it, the knob would be low enough and out of the way at the gooseneck for reefing....

the slug stops and pins work great except for when you want to reef the sail.... then they are in the way and time consuming. and im always in a hurry when i reef, cuz by the time i think I should pull a reef in it, it always seems like i should have had it done 10 minutes ago.....:D

I use the pin method. I think I will go with Sumners mod. The pin works fine until you have to reef. I don't want to have to screw and unscrew something everytime I want to trailer.
