question on different MacGregor models

What's the difference between a 26D, 26S and 26X? How do I tell one from another? Can I convert a 26S to 26X?Thanks.

S, D, or X

Basically D is for Daggerboard, S is for Swing-centerboard, and X is for eXtra headroom. No a 26s cannot be converted to a 26X.

Not exactly perfect response

The 26S has a daggerboard style keel so by saying that "S" stands for swing keel isn't totally accutate. The 26X comes with a lot more than just a little extra headroom. It also has a pedastal steering system, dual rudders with a center mounted motorwell capable of 50hp. I think the differences between the 26S and 26D are far more subtle than they are between those two models and the 26x.

Additional thoughts

In addition to previous post:26D was manufactured from ABOUT 1984/5/6 to 198926S was manufactured from about 1990 to 199626X since 1996The 26X does indeed have eXtra room inside because of the height. The 26X also has many advantages BUT does not sail as well as the S or D.Good Luck
