I'm looking at the new Hunter 340. Has anyone encountered any circumstance where the 27 HP Yanmar is not adequate? Is it possible to install a larger engine?

Should work

I had the same engine on my 33.5. I was able to get 7kts out of the engine.

Just fine for me...

I've had my H340 since August of 1997 and am very happy with the Yanmar 27 provided. She'll do near hull speed on calm waters and can hold her on into the wind and seas. Backing is more then adequate. I can't think of any reason to go larger on this boat. I really enjoy the H340. Bernie

more than adequate

I own a 340 and have had plenty of opportunity to power through 8-10 ft. seas and wind>30. knt. The engine is a charm through all sorts of adverse conditions and tough docking situations. However, I would highly recommend a 3 blade feathering prop.It 's a difference of night and day. I have a Max Prop from PYI. Expensive, but is one of the most important pieces of equiptment I have on the boat. Yanmar puts on some engine courses that are highly recommended. The engine is a piece of cake to work on.
