Mark, I notice from your postings that you are in the Dallas area. I may have the opportunity to move to Dallas in the next few months. I am currently living in Florida. I don't know much about where in the Dallas area it's possible to sail. Are there any decent size lakes close to Dallas to sail a 240? Is the ocean too far a trip? Thanks for any information you can provide. Tony

Sailing in the Dallas area

Hey, Sorry it took a while to respond. My first advice would be stay in Florida!!! Just kidding. Actually, there are several good lakes around here. By far the best is about an hour and a half north of Dallas - Lake Texoma. Big and clean. Also, Ray Roberts in Denton is nice. I don't recommend Lewisville because of too many speed boats & lots of boat related deaths. There are a couple on the south side, but most aren't as sailboat friendly as the one's I've mentioned. The Gulf is a good five hours away but you wouldn't want to sail there if you're used to the REAL ocean with clear water and nice beaches.

Agree with Mark - esp if you want to slip.. if u

trailer sail, Dallas area is full of reservoirs. Besides the 2 best ones he mentioned (i slip at Ray Roberts) and the dreaded Lewisville, also of good size are Grapevine, Lavon, Ray Hubbard, Joe Pool, Benbrook, Worth and Eagle Mountain, all within 2 hours drive of each other. If you like to trailer 4+ hours drive, S. Oklahoma and Arkansas are really nice (woods, clear lakes), as well as South and East Texas - uncountable big and small lakes. Doesn't compare to FLA tho... good luck
