Greetings all Wondering if any others have had any issues with the low prifile cowl vents when sail as a sloop? Specifically there location and interference with the jib sheets. I commonly get a sheet snagged on these vents and recently have lost one because of this. Any sollutions? Besides refiting the staysail. Thanks, Ken

Lost a few myself

My 37 was sloop rigged when I bought her about three years ago. Prior owner advised me to always remove the vents and install the plates before sailing. The only alternative is to have a stainless steel guard made to protect the scoops, I beleive Tops In Quality makes several different sizes. S/V Destiny Charles

Serves you right!

Just kidding. :) After spending the day bending on three sails, leaving the jib sheets at home, and rerigging the staysail maybe it is time to make her a sloop. Naaahh.

SCOOPS!

I sail a "85 cutter and renove the cowling before I sail and store then in the anchor lockor.

scoops 2

Ive got a 1985. I have a stainless rain that goes over the vents. its a great handhold in rough weather and the vents can live there without any problem. The staysail boom will lay on top of it too.
