Hi Bob i was reviewing the archive and notice your comments on water heaters hence questions 1.will the heating coils in the tank take abuse of salt water or will they corrode away? 2.whereis your tank located 3.have you noticed any overheating as per the other comments. My tamk is sitting in the port lazerette and is waiting to go but i thought it was not connected because of the raw water cooling. Thanks for your help

Not completely sure.

I berth my boat in freshwater with occasional trips to the SF Bay, so I'm not sure about the life of the coils in salt water. My tank is also in the port lazerette and I haven't had any overheating problems. If your thermostat keeps your engine running in the 150 range you shouldn't have too much of a salt problem since that's below the temp at which it will precipitate out. You could minimize the problem with a freshwater flush after using your boat. I think there are threads in the archives on this. In any case I'd guess that your'd be OK for a number of years. You might want to contact the manufacturer of your tank for info on coil life. Bob
