GirlSailor,
I have a new boat too and was wondering the same thing this last weekend while I was sailing and trying to get far enough up and out to see the telltales on the Genny. I did a lot of standing on one leg, kneeling on the other up on thecockpit bench seat.

Not sure if a corner perch seat would be used much or not, hopefully others will chime in with opinions.

we had windows cut into the back panel of the bimni, about 8" wide and 6" for and aft. now we can sit at the rear of the cockpit and see the windex at the top of the mast

not too easy to create a perch seat on a 27 if you want to be able to open your lazzerettes.

And to make it doubly difficult, I have single rails instead of double railing across the stern--apparently perch seats require double rails.

Our 272LE came with a custom cushioned helm seat and teak stern rail seats installed by a previous owner. I've posted three photos in our owner's album that show these, with some details in the captions. The helm seat is a joy, giving good visibility over the cabin and dodger and handy storage. It does prevent opening the small lazarette in the starboard cockpit seat while it is in place. In the year we have owned this boat, I don't think we have ever used the rail seats. They are hard to access with the bimini up and because of the position of the split backstay. E-mail me if you need more details or closeup photos of these seats. The bimini did come with a window that provides a good view of the masthead from the helm.
