Question about sealant

Hello everyone

I have to redo the seal of the PVC molding between the transom and hull. I have to redo sealant of the upper portion of the molding in contact with the transom, most often exposed to air, and also the part under the molding of PVC in contact with the hull, mostly submerged in the bottom part. I have to fill space ranges from 0 to 1/4 inch.
What would be the best sealant for this book?

Thanks

Michel from Montreal

Hi Michael and welcome to the site.

I have to ask ..................... what leads you to believe that there is a seal between the vinyl rub rail and the hull ? Originally, all of Hunter's boats came from the factory without any form of seal. The idea here is to let the water run in one side and drain out the other, so don't seal it.

consider sealing the inside seam

I had a trickle of water from the aft joint you are asking about.I tried to seal it up with life seal from inside. Very awkward getting inside to do so. While I made a difference, I didn't get it completely stopped. I ultimately had a boat yard pull the rubber off to a foot above the waterline and glass the seam sealed. Not cheap but am completely dry now. Good luck!
