We just purchased a Hunter Passage 42, 1994, in pristine condition. The surveyor turned the freezer and refrigerator on for about 3 hours. The refrig got cold, the freezer did not. He said to us that it was fine, that it did not have time enough to get cold. We now know that it is not working and feel upset with ourselves that we did not question him further but are now concerned and disappointed that this Adler Barbour freezer is not working. The previous owner said he just vaccumed the air vent out each year but had to keep it packed with food in order for it to function. We know the fine reputation of your company and thus are counting on you for any help you can give.610 688-1579 or RFHNWH@AOL>COM

Clarification

Congrats on your new boat - This web site is not a part of Hunter Marine, but you'll find plenty of P-42 owners here who can probably help you figure that out. You can reach HUnter directly at: huntermarine@worldnet.att.net. Most P42 freezer issues I've heard of have been caused bad thermostats. If it's an A/B unti you might try posting something in the Marine Refrigeration forum on this site which is sponsored by A/B. Good luck and enjoy your boat!

P42 not freezing

The problem may be due to a loss of refrigerant. If the couplings are not fully tightened or were no tightened quickly enough, enough refrigerant can escape to cause sub standard performance. In Rock Hall, Mike Stevens of Haven Harbor Marina would be able to check the system and balance the refrigerant charge for you.

Freezer not freezing

I have the same boat. (1995) I had the same problem and was able to fix it myself. it was the control in the freezer. I took it apart and found an adjustment inside the control. this adjustment controls the sensor inside the control making it switch colder or warmer. After adjusting i was able to have a freezer which worked very well. i purchased temperature guages from a kitchen store which are designed for your fridge or freezer. they show you the range for freezing and refrdgerating. These are now permantly mounted in my fridge and freezer to confirm proper operation and good cold beer!! Cheers! Chris Boswell 604 813 6657 or cboswell@HGP.com
