okay.. just had a chance to lay out the mast on the ground..(74 cat w/swing keel, on trailer) and figured out where most everything is supposed to go, found that my stern rigging(?)was cut, broke,or...so i know i'll need to replace that one, actually going to get all new rigging, but the only other one that is cut is one that comes off the aft section of the boom, where would that go to. up to the top of the mast or hanging off the aft cable somehow...again.. am new so.. lots to learn.,.

normal backstay

I have an 82 model Catalina 22 and I replaced the shrouds and stays through Catalina Direct. As for this particular year, the standard setting from the Catalina factory is to put some bend into the mast and have it rake bacward somewhat to flatten out the main sail. This is done to depower the main as the factory does not know the conditions in which its boats will be sailed. Hence the backstay will appear to be too short to get the mast to stand erect. However, this is normal. To get the mast to stand more straight and power up the main, you will need to install a backstay adjuster which is also available from Catalina Direct.
