We are looking at the 340 vs the 380 for sailing in coastal New England. Will the larger displacement of the 380 (16,000 vs 11,000 lbs) be noticable in typical seas for this area - in terms of handling/stability??
We've had both and been very happy with them. When we got our h34, the h376 was out of reach - just could not do it. The 34 is a great boat...but the (now) 380 is clearly superior for what we use it for. We often have family and guests on board who are not exactly blue-water sailors. They appreciate the added stability of the 380 - it is noticable. The extra room is great too, especially since we often sail for several days (2-3) at a time. If you can do it - the 380 would be my choice.
I bought a 96 280, and traded up to a 99 380 what a difference! Buy bigger if you can. The 380 sails like a dream. Bigger, safer, faster, more expensive.... you know how it goes...Good lickBob
