Query rudder shaft seal

Oh dear,

when I dropped the rudder I don't take any precausions to protect the
seal (didn't even know there was one) what should I be doing before
and when I replace the rudder.

Hi George

I thought the same, I didn’t know there was a rudder seal and the rudder
is now on my dining room table!!

Is there realy nobody that knows anything about the rudder sealing
arrangements, I know nothing so ANY info would be great!
