Hi all,

As I prepare for haulout up here in MI, My thoughts go back to last year when I couldn't get the quarterberth bulkhead all the way out. I lossened the screws at the top and bottom and could get it to rotate some toward me, I couldn't get it to come all the way out. Am I missing something? Any tricks?

What is the project you are doing? Why are you removing this bulkhead? From what you say it sounds like something you have to do seasonally. Why?

I cannot speak for J Page but the only way I can access the batteries on my 79 Hunter 30 is by removing the Qberth bulkhead. In fact, it is removed more than it is in place.

Tulman,

Are you talking about the side bulkhead below the opening port, or the rear bulkhead?

Sorry if I misunderstood, I was talking about the side bulkhead. I have never had occasion to remove the rear portion of the bulkhead.

Now I am curious, too. What are you doing that requires removal of the rear?

Tulman,

Thanks for the responds. I want better access to the rear area of the boat for a number of reasons. 1. steering quadrant Mine is fine but what if? 2. the real reason is I've had a rig failure on a previous boat, now I'm more careful on such things, and in my inspections I've noticed that Hunter failed to place backing plates on either of the rear stay mounts or for that matter on the swim ladder mounts. Access to the rear area of the boat thru the cockpit seatee is marginal at best for that side and impossible to get clear to the other side to work. It also provides room to work on any # of other projegts. BTW I'm working on a plan to convert to tankless hot water. Again mine works fine but lets face it, we own 30 year old boats. Fail to plan, and plan to fail. The backing plates are a crucial piece and after my failure on the Bristol, one I never want to go thru again. Lets keep bouncing ideas, I love this forum!
