OK the choice of sails is getting confusing. I have read many post and still can't decide. I need new sails for my Hunter 25.5. mainly for weekend crusing and a little racing. I want value but also good sail shape. Cruising Direct were great over the phone and a good quote. Then I called Quantum who were very informative and seemed to know their stuff. David was big on the fact that they would really make the sails for my boat and sailing conditions and though a bit more expensive that the difference in quality and details was worth it. help? Jeff

The sails were made for MY boat, where I sail, and the conditions I sail in because my quantum guy grew up on my bay. How many of you get to contend with 20 knots plus almost every summer afternoon? The detail work on my Quantums is superb. Enormous gussets at tack, clew and all reefing cringles, web straps on al cringles. Grab.handles formed from the web straps at the tack reefing cringles, draft stripes, jack lines at both reef points, leech lines at all edges that need them and so on. The price was more than reasonable. My salesman came to the boat to confirm one of my measurements, delivered the sails to the boat, bent them on and went out for a sail with them to be certain they were good and I was happy with them. I paid just about $3000.00 (Including shipping)for the 2 plus 2 main and 135 genoa at the Atlantic City show two winters ago. I would do quantum again with no reservations at all.

I went with Airforce...
and am very happy with my 2+2 main, around 1200, though I didn't get the service Sam got since it was purchased over the internet. That being said Lin Robson (airforce dude) was great and we spent alot of time emailing and calling each other to make sure all the dimensions were correct for what I wanted, also a couple of follow ups by him to ensure everything worked well.

I Went With Mack Sails
I decided on Mack Sails in Stewart Florida when I purchased new sails for my Vision 32 this spring. After talking with Doyle, CD, Mack, and Airforce (many e-mails and in person), I decided on Mack. They supplied higher quality hardware, sailcloth, and features as their standard, at a lower price. I have been very happy with the quality and cut of the sails, as well as the service. Its still hard to beat a local sailmaker for service, but the cost of personal visits to the boat for measuring, and test sails with the sailmaker on board, is built into their price. If you don't need this extra service, you don't need to pay for it.

I bought a "Mack Pack" for my main and the Mack family was great to work with. Family owned and run. They know there struff. I ran into a little glitch (my fault as much as anything) on measurements and they said, "No problem, send it back in the winter when you pull your sails and we will redo it at no charge. Not as fortunate
Lin really let me down. Ordered and paid for furling genoa on May 13th. As of a couple of weeks ago, the sail hadn't even been started. I got a refund and ordered Doyle sail on this site. The are to be delived aroun 9/4. We'll see.

I agree that unless you have unusual requirements or rigging, go with an internet supplier. For an hour of measuring time you get a lower cost without the questionable "frills" of the local sailmaker. I can personally recommend CD sails where I had a sail made 2 years ago. Fast service and good quality at a very reasonable price. This was in comparison to my recent experience with a local international sailloft with whom I was very dissapointed. I paid a premium price for mis-measured sails of average quality and poor service. The sails were 7 weeks late because they had "more important" racing sail orders and because the manager of the loft was always off racing.
