On a perfect 10 to 12 mph Texas afternoon the new powercleats worked very well. It takes just a flick of the jib sheet to lock or unlock them. The fine incremental adjustability is really nice, because one can retrim so easily. I went through all points of sail and the workload was really cut down. We have wheel steering, so it was really nice not to have to go around the wheel to the cabin to release and recleat the sheets. When singlehanding, I have often use the stern cleats, but with the boat heeled over, even that can be quite a chore to stay on course while cleating, and with a non-helpful crew sitting in the cockpit, the stern cleats are not a great option. On the negative side, I miss the tradition of tying off the sheets now that I have finally learned how to do so neatly. I also miss using the winches, although they weren't necessary with the wind on that day. My one concern is their durability. The horned cleats could be kicked and stepped on without a problem. I'm not sure that these powercleats could take such abuse. If they don't, the old cleats will go right back on and I will only be out $60.
