I purchased a cat. 22 this fall and I have been cleaning her up for next spring. I noticed that the fiber covers that go over the stowaway areas in the boat are stained from moisture etc. Has anyone put an oil stain on these and then put poly. on them? I think they would look alot better, as well and be safe from further moisture. I know that these are not seen, but when the cushions are remover, they will look alot better. Thanks Dale

Fiber as in pressed parts or plywood?

My 22 is a 1980 model and the covers are a thin plywood. Approx 5/16 of an inch. If you do have fiber board type cover you would treat it the same as any other type wood produce with the exception of a water bath as that would probably cause swelling and productbfailure. It would make her look much better but be sure to correct the water entry problem first. I have used a product called "Bristol" for all my deck wood with excellent results. It is a two part varnish replacement and lasts for at least 4 years in the southeast sun. It was used on our 38 IP that we lived on and cruised for a couple of years and was 2 years old at the start. Varnish and Cetol didn't compare at all for durability and ease of application. Enjoy your boat, you picked a very good one to start with and I am loving mine as we ending my sailing years. Ray
