I recently purchased a 1987 Hunter 26.5. It has a push up companionway cover, which the previous owner did'nt know how to work. Can anyone tell me what hardware is necessary and/or available to make it stay open?
My 26.5 has a laniard attached to the boom from the vang to the eye on the front of the hatch cover. That is fine when not sailing. Last weekend I bought a length of 1/2 pvc, two 90s, and two endcaps. Cut two pieces 18 inches for uprights and one piece 30 some inches to conect accross. Works great so far and I made one for the guy in the slip behind me who has a 23.5, the hatches are identical.
On my 23 of the same design I bought some almuminum angle iron and drilled a hole in the side of the angle and then screwed it to the side of the wood on the hatch and when it needed to be down the almuminum Angle iron just folded into the slots of the hatch and when up just went into the slot to stay up
