I am going to Puerto Vallarta Mexico soon to look at a Jeanneau 349. It is under US flag, it was originally sailed from Oceanside CA. I don't know where to begin. We want to purchase and bring it back to San Diego. Any advice on what we need to do and consider. I believe we need DMV, Coast Guard, Escrow Service, inspections, TIP cancellation. Is there a company that will help with all the legalities for this type of transaction. I really want to make sure we do everything we need to. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks. We are not going through a broker. I will check the link you sent.

Of course using a professional who does this for a living is easier but assuming the boat is already USCG documented you may be able to do it yourself. Especially if there is no loan. I did it when I bought my current boat and saved a few hundred on third party fees.
You can find info on the USCG website such as here:

And check the DMV website and or call AAA if you are a member. If it is USCG documented you don't need California registration numbers but you do have to pay annual property taxes and will likely need to pay sales/use tax when you bring it into California. Avoiding that use tax is a whole separate issue.

No idea about the TIP cancellation.

You need to ask US Customs on what you need. Sometimes the Local American Consulate In Puerto Vallarta can help.

I lived in Mexico for 4 years, but times change the rules.

Your new port of call in San Diego, CA should help also on your needs.

You will need your HULL ID Number for sure plus the Boat's Name.

The Coast Guard may have that Boat Title already and filed.
