In general, what is the purchase price to asking price ratio for a used boat.

No pat answer

There is no pat answer. It realy depends on the market for used boats in the area, time of year, popularity of the boat in the area, seller's personal circumstances etc.. I think I would look at www.yachtworld.com for the particular model and look for the lowest asking price. If the lowest price is in your area I would offer 15-25% less. BUC values are not hard figures.

Broker or Self?

Susan That's kind of like saying how do I buy a used car. So much depends on who you are buying it from, and also what condition the boat is in, and, basically, why the owner is selling. It's sure different with a broker. Jeff's right. If you personally know about boats, that's a help. If not, ither find a friend who's good and trusty, or hire a surveyor when you go hunting. You'll need a surveyor eventually anyway. Good luck. Stu

Better idea!

If you are trying to find the best value or what to offer on a used boat go to a Yacht Broker and have them look-up what comprable boats have sold for...make sure that you have them look in your general geographic area...it is relevant. Also look it up in www.bucvalu.com and www.nada.com Also have the sales person check to find out how long the boat has been on the market. Don't be afraid to make a low offer...it's a start! Good luck!
