Do you sail out of PGI in punta gorda, in and out of ponce de leon park ramp.Is it a problem with 5 ft draft sailboat.I would really like to hear from some one whogo's in and out of these canals.Thinking about keeping my sailboat in these canalsand use this entrance.Nick

We go out of the canals over by the yacht club, but have met people who have to use the Ponce. Some have had deeper draft than 5' but you really have to watch the tide. It was supposed to have been dredged in March, which will help for awhile. We haven't gotten to sail much in FL yet, but it seems to me you have to watch the tides a lot, this coming from someone who has been sailing on Lake Erie. Good Luck

We sail out of Ponce all of the time

I only draw 4 feet and have never had a problem. Having said that, 5ft will need to watch the tide and wind. The "S" curve after the park and before the canals is where most of the silting seems to occur. There was a boat drawing 5.5 aground when I came through about 6 weeks ago but came off with the rising tide. Unlimited towing is nice if not required for this area.

Tides

Where do you get your best tide reports forthe harbor and ponce location.I am down in my Port Charlotte home and looking at a somecondo's with a slip that are selling much lower than normaland thinking about buying rather than just paying monthly fora marina slip.Nick
