Pumpout Deck Plate Question

Peggie,In an attempt to be self sufficient when I need to pumpout, I now have in my possesion all three of the NozAll pumpout adapters made by Sealand (see http://www.sealandtechnology.com/accessories.html). My thought was that I would not have to depend on a marina for the right adapter. However, none of them fit my deck plate. The boat is 1985 vintage. The deck plate has the label "Waste" on it, along with "Made in New Zealand" and the letter "R" followed by the anchor symbol and the letter "C". Two questions:1. Any idea who made this or if they are still around?2. Do I even need to worry about a pumpout adapter? The marina where we kept our previous boat had the pumpout hose with two levers that locked around the NozAll adapter that the marina supplied. If none of the NozAlls fit, do pumpout stations also have a plastic tapered nozzle and the end of the hose that can go directly into the deck plate opening? If so, is suction a problem using this method?Thanks for your help.- Gary

Pumpout deck fittings and other deck fills aren't quite universal. Most boats made in the US after about 1982 have threaded openings that are 1.25" x 11.5 tpi (threads per inch)...that's about the only size replacement cap you can find any more too. Many pre-1980 US made boats have deck fills that 1.25" x 16 tpi... the size that was on my last boat. When I lost the cap overboard, I couldn't find a replacement finally had to give up and replace the whole fitting.Many foreign made boats, especially older ones, and some larger US made boats have 1.5" x either 11.5 or 16 tpi. A few don't conform to any of the above.So to get a pumpout adapter that fits, it's necessary to measure the inner diameter of the fitting AND count the threads per inch. The solution may be what mine finally had to be: a new deck fitting. If you ever drop the cap overboard, that'll definitely be the only solution.

You're right . .

I have all 3 of the sizes you mention. Your solution of a new deck plate is one that I also thought of and I have a Perko plate that fits the larger size adapter. I realized this AM when going to install it that the outer flange on the new plate is about 1/2" smaller than what is currently there. Since the deck was repainted with Imron and I'm sure the plate was not removed, that could be a cosmetic problem. Also, the current plate is secured pretty good - not sure what sealant was used. At least I asked my question before attempting to break it out!What about using a tapered nozzle directly into the deck plate opening? Is this an option? Can a pumpout be done without one of the adapters? Thansk again.

Solution (maybe) . .

I may have found the waste deck plate that was used on my boat. An internet search revealed that Forespar was formerly "R C Marine", the letters found on the plate. On the Forespar site (http://www.forespar.com/catalog/plumbing/deckfills.htm) the waste plate looks identical to mine. This page also list part # 153000 that is "Waste Adapter for 1 1/2" threads". This would work with the Sealand NozAll part # 342358 that I have. I'll find out more when Forespar opens Monday. Thanks for your help.
