MICHAEL CARD

i AM HAVING A PROBLEM WITH MAST PUMPING WHEN SITTING AT THE DOCK WHEN THE WIND IS DIRECTLY ASTERN I HAVE HAD THE RIG LOOSE AND OVER TIGHT BUT SEEM TO STILL GET PUMPING EITHER WAY ANY SUGGESTIONS MICHAEL CARD MAHARR06@MSN.COM

Pumping is something that you can never really elinanate, but after proper mast tuning and adding backstay in a seaway should get rid of most of it. What are you using for cap and intermediate shroud tension?

Try This

You might want to try wraping a halyard around your mast. This is supposed to disrupt the vortex created by the wind that is the cause of the pumping. You'll see this tecnique used on external car cell phone antennas that have a wire wrapped around them in a spiral pattern. The only problem is that you can only wrap the section below the spreaders. It helps but isn't totally effective. I believe that you'll find several postings on this topic in the archives.
