The following is an e-mail my wife wrote to 'friends'. Enjoy. You may as well:

The "other" in mind... LISTEN TO THIS!!!
We just got home after an overnight on the boat (Wednesday)... This AM, before leaving the dock, we took the boat to the pump-out station (it was full after having had guests aboard...)

All was NORMAL as Rick inserted the pump nossle into the boat's tank opening... Suddenly I saw the big hose "buck" and "jump!" I heard a HUGE "swooosh," that was followed by a "burp-like" sound... and a WAVE OF HOLDING TANK WATER DRENCHED RICK FROM THE HEAD DOWN!!!

Oh my God! He stood there in utter SHOCK! Dripping!!! And I, for an instance... trying to compute what I'd just seen... The I saw him "wrinkle his nose and SPIT OUT!!!

I bursted into UNCONTROLOBLE laughter...

The poop stuff even got into his MOUTH!!!

Yuk! Yuk! Yuk! I'm NOT kissing him for a LOOOOONG time!!!

I laughed (he too) all the way home, and I must confess, I'm STILL LAUGHING!

...Thought you'd appreciate hearing about it... Marlyn

  So exactly what caused the pump out to spit up?
Beats me. I had pumped out the tank, rinsed the nozzle and pumped some saltwater into the hose, then filled the tank up with fresh water for a rinse. I put the nozzle back in the fitting, and when I opened the valve, there was a big momentary backflow from the pump out before it again developed suction. I have NO idea what could have caused that and never experienced anything like that in the hundreds of pump outs before. You would be proud of me tho. No cussing, no exclaimations. I just stood there dripping, and spat out whatever I ingested and didn't even react to my wife rolling on the dock, splitting a gut. I washed my hands, returned to the dock and took a very LONG shower. Also gargled a lot <smile>.

Can''t believe you just stood there! :)

'Cuz when a tank erupted all over me once upon a time, I certainly didn't...I was off the dock and into the water before the spew was done! Fully clothed wearing shoes, watch, sunglasses and all...I didn't care! And I'd do the same thing again if it happened again! :)

The one time that it happened to me, I found that it was because I opened the valve too quickly on the pump-out hose. I have learned to open it VERY slowly until the waste enters the hose, then turn it all the way open.

Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. In my case, I think I open the valve too quickly causing the tank contents to build some velocity coming up the pumpout hose. When it got to the fitting, I had not firmily sealed the pumpout hose nozzle and got sprayed. I came away spitting too. My wife is a nurse so she immediately ordered me to the showers. Subsequent pumps and rinses went off without drama.
