Hurricane Sandy gave me a new project. Boats were blown over top of our C&C 36, and our only damage suffered was a crushed pulpit and three bent stanchions.

So, I have sourced and purchased the correct replacement stainless and aluminum castings. I can remove the bolts but most of the nuts below are concealed form my view or access.

So the question to the wisdom of this forum is how do I properly secure my new pulpit and stanchions?

Thanks, Paul

These items really do need to be thru bolted with nuts. Can you get the machine screws out without holding the nuts? (I do not like the way that sounded lol) It is possible there are backup plates that are tapped in that case you life is easy. Otherwise you will just have to get access one way or another even if that means cutting access openings.

Good Luck

Hello Paul,

If the holes of the new pulpit allign with the old ones you can just use the same size fasteners and "hope" the nuts remain bedded in the fiberglas as they seem to be.

We added backer plates to the bow cleats in our Irwin 31 by cutting access openings in the sides of the anchor locker. We sized the openings to fit access ports that we installed in the anchor locker after the backer plates were in place and tightened.

I realize we are talking about different boats and different projects, but since we are discussing the same general area of the bow this might give you some possible sollution.

Best Wishes, Phil

I found the nuts somewhat concealed and properly took off the pulpit. now I just need to find the right sealant for the installation. Thanks, Paul
