Well, the end of another season! Last week we pulled Windsongs and things went well except for having to reposition the boat's keel such that the keel sat squarely on the the bunk with the metal beam below it. I place markers on the trailer to set the depth at which the boat is pulled. The boat seemed to be centered fine. The basic problem is that you cannot see exactly where the wing keel is when positioning the boat. Any advice or thoughts would be wonderful, Thanks in advance S/V Windsongs

h23 centering,

many people use self made guides, check archives, the one that sounded best to me, was made of 2x4s prressure treated, and were not parralel to trailer or ground , rather started higher and then sloped downward,, good luck Mike, annomh23,

I remember that discussion

Each 2x4 extended from the front end of the wooden keel support back to the underside of the bunk just behind the last metal support to the trailer frame. The guides are clear of the hull, but guide the keel to the center of the board as the boat is pulled forward. Can be done in about an hour with less than $20 in materials (mostly u-bolts, lag screws and carriage bolts). It's probably best to do it with the boat on the trailer, so you can see how close to get with the guides without fouling the hull. Good luck. Peter S/V Raven

Guides

I installed 8 foot vertical guides made of 1 inch galvanized pipe. I put an elbow at the bottom and installed a vertical piece of pipe inside the square tube on the trailer behind the wheels. I drilled through the square tube and galv. pipe and secured with bolts. I put PVC pipe with a cap around the vertical pipe to serve as a roller. The PVC is cut 1 inch shorter then the galv. pipe. When installing, have the boat square on the trailer and install the pipe as tight as possible. When finished, the boat has only one place to go and that’s center. Good Luck.
