I have been keeping the boat at a boatyard for the winter.
I have an opportunity to buy a trailer for it. I would love to have the conveniience of having the boat in my driveway for the winter so I can work on it without driving to the boatyard every time I want to do something on the boat.
I have a trailer hitch on my car that I used when I had a 18' rhodes sailboat.
The car is a 2000 Buick Park ave. 6 cyl.engine with a automatic transmission. Is this car adequate for pulling the Hunter 22. (approx 3,000 lbs
Thanks,
Joe

Check the owners manual for towing specs to be sure but I suspect not if the boat is 3000 pounds and trailer weight and additional weight of gear on boat probably will put you closer to 4000 pounds.. However depending on how far you have to tow it (short is better) you may be able to get by with it. Another option is there is usually some one, maybe even the yard that will tow it home for you and back in the spring for a modest fee. In the mean time you will be able to move the empty trailer with your car no problem. Just some thoughts........

I agree with Pete: short distances and over flat terrain and you'll probably be ok. I pull my hunter 22 with a dodge ram 1500 v8 w/4x4 and it (the engine) groans over the Adirondack hills.

Since I only trailer my H260 twice a year, spring launch and fall recovery, I often borrow friends Suburbans. I know many owners. I can usually find one who's SUV is available on the days I plan. I have a contengency plan to rent one if all else fails.

A towing vehicle

I tow my 240 behind a 1994 Chysler Town and Country van. I know it is not the best towing platform because of the front wheel drive, but it works and it is paid for. This car will pull the boat out of the water with the ballast tank full on a steep ramp. Not sure what your boat would weigh, but if you have doubts, beg a friend with a truck. Pay him with a steak supper.
