I have a Capri 13, it has some wood in the hull which supports the cockpit of the boat. The problem is the wood seems to be rotting and i need to know if there is a way to pull the deck and hull apart without ruining the boat? Thank You Ian

Separating hull & deck

Ian, My 14.2 has a seem of sealant-type material (kind of industrial caulking, I guess) that holds the deck to the hull. That seam is cracked around my boat, due to age mainly, and I've wondered how I do what you're talking about. It seems that the hull and deck fit together like to inverted "U"s, fastened by that seam. Seems like if you could do a clean break of that seam, you could separate it. On the other hand, simply cutting through the deck at the effected area might be easier to put back together as well as faster. I've also emailed the factory with questions, and while they didn't exactly solve the problem, they did reply and give me a better direction to head than my previous efforts. Good luck! john mark
