For people interested in Puget Sound this URL (http://www.ecy.wa.gov/apps/shorephotos/index.html)may be of interest. It’s a collection of shoreline photos available on the web. 1. Click on the area midway between “Port Angeles” and “Click on Shoreline”, then click on the “ow” in“Port Townsend”, then click on the red dot between the words “Wilson Point” (actually this is known as ‘Point Wilson’), then click on the right rame to see a blow-up of Point Wilson. Note the ‘white water’ in the upper right side of the picture; this is the area where there is often significant turbulence. The URL at this point should be http://www.ecy.wa.gov/apps/shorephotos/scripts/bigphoto.asp?id=JEF0613 2. One person earlier this week asked about anchoring at Spencer Spit in the San Juans. (http://www.ecy.wa.gov/apps/shorephotos/scripts/bigphoto.asp?id=SNJ0537) The north side of the spit has mooring buoys and the south side doesn’t. Note the boats anchored on the south side; why? Because of boat wakes on the north side and also maybe a lack of room or wind/wave conditions. Why did Ecology spend a lot of money putting this site together? This past year they took a photo log of the entire shoreline to track future illicit development and probably also track the shoreline in general, including such things like eel grass which is related to salmon. It’s my guess this site is an outgrowth of that effort.
