Who amoung you has taken measures to get rid of the water that accumulates on the aft corners of the cockpit seats? I am thinking that we could install a pair of small scuppers and fill in that channel. Any information on what you did and products used would be most appreciated.

Sit on it.

My cushions are two inches thick and cover the entire area. I know the water is there but "out of sight, out of mind." :) How big is the puddle on an H30? On my H37C it is an area about 2"x7" by 1/4" deep. One in each corner.

*pop I beg your pardon

Size of puddles seems to be about the same. I don't think our cushions are that thick. We always have used a sponge to get rid of standing water before putting the cushions down.

what nature provides,it will take back

Be carefull what you wish for. A previous owner had drilled small holes at the aft bend in the seats. This standing water dripped down into the aft area behind the quarter berth on the port side and laserette on the starboard side. It made for quite a mess when I "found" this and the reason. These holes are now filled with epoxy. If you wish to drain, bring the hose down and into the cockpit so it can run out the scuppers.

My intention was to install a small scupper

With hoses that drained the water away. I just wasn't sure of how to connect to the cockpit scuppers or how to rig an overboard drain.

Ian's idea.

Tammy, I like Ian's thought of a short hose to the front of the locker. The outlet could come out right above the existing cockpit scupper. I would never compromise the space in those lockers though. That space is more important than a little water in the seat corners.

I'm with you

I agree they are a troublesome thing. I'm in the process of repainting topside and cockpit and before the water stains get a chance to form in the seat corners, I will have scuppers that will drain into the cockpit floor near the main scuppers installed. I would not go through the outside of the hull, drainage for this trouble puddle can be taken care of and hose not really get in the way on port side and starbord locker has that molded drainage that will protect the hose when installed.

We removed the two small scuppers

That were on the deck on both sides of the cockpit. They were little and I noticed that any water on the deck usually ran right past them & off the stern. Plus, they were the source of moisture in the deck core because they leaked. When we were at the boat yesterday I noticed that there is a small drain already in place from the scuppers mentioned above so I can use it for similar sized scuppers in the seat corners. We plan to fill in that groove that is supposed to drain water from seat to cockpit scuppers (it doesn't) and them paint. I'll take pictures of the project and post them.
