PSS Shaft Seal

I installed a new PSS shaft seal last year before launch (April 06). It's been great...no problems. However, I've done NO maintenance on it and can't find any instructions. It is the newer version that supposedly does not require "burping". Seems to me that it's not good for that part of the shaft to be "soaking" in salt (brackish) water month after month. Is there something I should be doing?

No maintence

I had one installed this winter and I was supplied with directions. As long as you have the new version with the breather tube you do not have to burp the air out. No maintinence required. The mating surfaces of the shaft seal are teflon (I beleive) so I don't think that salt enviornment will affect them. Have you checked their web site for Maintenece instructions. ( I should check Websters web site to find out how to spell maintinence)

Correction

The mating surfaces are carbon graphite (not teflon) and the web site does say "maintenance free"

Although my boat is 50 miles from here Jand I don't have the PSS instructions in front of me I believe that they do say that if the boat is out of the water for an extended period (3 months or more) you have to burp the seal when the boat goes back in the water. This is for the new type seal with the breather tube.

when you launch. After that if you have the right compression as per the instructions do NOTHING except go sailing!!
