I am looking to purchase a Catalina 25. Recently someone told me that the swing keels can be a problem and cause alot of damage if something were to happen. I would not mind the swing keel because I might be trailing the boat some. Does anyone have any advice, good or bad for the swing keels?

Hello, I used to own a Catalina 22 with a swing kell. Swing keel pros: easy(er) to trailer can sail (or at least moor / anchor) in less water. Swing keep cons: Requires maintenance to the swing keel mechanisms (winch, cable, pin, etc.)/ Makes noise when sailing (hum) Makes noise at anchor (bang) Not really designed for mooring in salt water If you plan on trailering the boat I think you need the swing keel. If you don't trailer, then you probably don't want a swing keel. Good luck, Barry
